Opportunity No aggregator/processor converting rice straw into a SAF-grade intermediate
Prepare a next step
Egypt is the most SAF-advanced African state after South Africa and the only other with licensed projects: a first SAF licence awarded Dec 2025 (state-backed ESAF) and 2-3 HEFA plants in development (~320+ ktpa by ~2029). Its long-game lead is green-hydrogen e-SAF (SCZONE green-H2/ammonia pipeline + National Low-Carbon Hydrogen Strategy). Africa's largest refiner (EGPC ~795 kbbl/d, 2019 baseline). Huge untapped residue: rice straw, much openly burned. SAF today is UCO/HEFA-only and thin; rice straw not yet linked to a project; Nile-dependent water/land rules out energy crops. Export/ReFuelEU oriented; not CORSIA-in.1
